George Floyd was killed as a result of inhumane police brutality. This brutality is a symptom of a racist and prejudiced system. We will meet to protest this system, in the first steps to make a lasting change.
Meet at Railroad plaza (by the Kugel Ball) Speakers will include: Melanie Hartnett North Penn student, and we are honored to welcome Shaykh Anwar Muhammad; President of Ambler NAACP, Author, and proprietor of the Black Reserve Bookstore in Lansdale.
Following the speeches, we will line the sidewalks of Main Street with signs to show our support to end injustice. (Please bring a sign, and include George Floyd’s name out of respect.)
After the protest, we will gather and stand or kneel for 8 minutes of silence. This symbolizes the 8 minutes Derek Chauvin brutally pressed his knee on George Floyd’s neck, thus killing him while his fellow police officers did nothing to help.
Wearing of face masks and other pandemic precautions are requested.
Please note if you disagree with this, do not attempt to harass or intimidate anyone associated with this event. The Lansdale police are aware and will be monitoring.
