We know mail-in ballots are being accepted for three days after Election Day, so we’ve got to stay grounded, attentive, and in community as votes are being counted beyond November 3rd.

Philadelphians will gather to hold a sit-in across Independence Mall on Thursday 11/5 in honor of the core American promise that EVERY vote gets counted in a transparent, democratic election.

Even before Election Day, there has been an amazing amount of voter turnout this year! And so many people across the city have stepped up to support voters navigate this unusual election so that our democracy can work even more effectively through the pandemic. The next step is to cheer on all the workers counting our votes and maintain calm, patience, and resolve for the results of the count.

This is what it looks like to build a democracy that’s one day free of suppression, irrationality, and ineffectiveness.
All are welcome to sit down for democracy! Here are the details: Every demonstrator must commit to the principles of nonviolence. We will hold the sit-in from 9am-5pm, because Americans can’t work if our democracy doesn’t. Come out all day or any amount of time you are able to.

Wear a mask or face covering and plan to practice social distancing by sitting 6 feet from others. Bring something comfortable to sit on, if you can. Bring snacks & water and dress for the weather. Think about how you want to practice the historic tactic of the sit-in: Do you want to sit in meditation? Pray? Play music? Draw? As long as we’re sitting in unity together, you’re invited to ground yourself however that looks for you! There will be a PA system for people to share stories about why democracy is important to you.
