P’nai Or, Jewish Renewal Congregation, will be joining the USG Black Lives Matter Vigil at the Unitarian Society of Germantown on September 10th, the start of Shabbat (Sabath) between the High Holidays of Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. These holidays begin the Jewish New Year 5782. At this time we look inside ourselves to see where we have “missed the mark” in our relationships with all beings and with the earth during the past year, asking forgiveness and committing to change. We hear the exhortation of the prophet Isaiah:
Unlock the shackles put on by wicked power!
Untie the ropes of the yoke!
Let the oppressed go free,
And break off every yoke!
Last year the sound of the shofar (ram’s horn) joined with the honking horns on Lincoln Drive exclaiming Black Lives Matter! So, again, this year we come together. All are welcome!
