The People’s Budget Hearing (Facebook Live)

Monday June 8, 2020 at 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm | Online – Facebook Live

unnamed

We will put forth a vision of adequately-funded services and communities by defunding the police and taxing the wealthy. A vision of the city we all deserve, where Black Lives Matter.

City Council’s last scheduled public testimony hearing during this budget process is already closed, and any additional testimony spots are being distributed by a lottery. This failure to achieve transparent and democratic justice in this vital public process doesn’t have to mean people will be silenced. The People’s Budget Hearing will center the voices of Black and Brown Philadelphians, who make up the communities most heavily policed and would be most adversely impacted by austerity policies.

We invite you to:

  1. Join us and our allied organizations LIVE at our Facebook page for a stream on Monday June 8 from 6-8 pm.
  2. Watch the official City Council testimony on Tuesday June 9 from 3-5 pm.
  3. Record your own budget testimony about defunding police, taxing the wealthy, and fairly funding city services and communities and share it on social media using #PeoplesTestimony AND any of these hashtags #FundOurCity #TaxTheRich #DefundThePPD. If you don’t have social media or would prefer not to post it yourself, send it to us at phillymunicipalworkersunited@gmail.com so we can share it!

For examples of this kind of testimony, we lift up the videos Amistad Law Project is beginning to publish: https://twitter.com/amistadlaw/status/1268662335222185990?s=21
